Kylie Cosmetics - Smooch Valentine's Mini Kit: First Impressions

Hi Beauties,

Kylie Cosmetics has released a Valentine’s Collection similar to her holiday and birthday limited edition collections.  The collection was released on February 2, 2017.  There is a wide range of items in this collection from lip kits, mini liquid lipsticks, three mini collections and one larger palette called Kylie’s Diary.  I purchased one of the mini kits in Smooch to test out, mostly because many items sold out in seconds.

The Smooch kit contains 4 mini size items of Kylie’s favourite shades packaged in limited edition red packaging in honour of Valentine’s Day.  This set comes with two pressed powder Kyshadows, a Matte Liquid Lipstick and a Gloss and retails for $22 (USD).

Kyshadow:

  • Poison Berry (matte deepened berry)
  • In Love (metallic opalescent pink)

When I initially swatched Poison Berry, it applied very dry and patchy however that wasn't the case on the eyes.  It was pigmented and blended well.  The other shade, In Love, is a little powdery and had some fallout.  I wish it was more buttery and smooth. I suggest using Mac fix plus to get optimal wear and to avoid fading.

Matte Liquid Lipstick & Gloss

  • Gorg (red burgundy wine)
  • Damn Gina (soft shimmering peachy-pink gloss)
FullSizeRender (23).jpg

There are only a few liquid lipstick brands that I like and to my surprise, I actually like this one.  The formula is thin and fast drying.  It wears very comfortably.  The shade Gorg is a nice burgundy colour however I don't  see myself wearing this shade too often.  The gloss is a very pretty light pink that adds a nice sheen atop the lipstick.  It also looks amazing over a nude or pink base.  The formula is non-sticky which is a plus.  On the other hand, due to the size of the applicator, the wand is very small.  Unless you're picking up a lot of product at once, you need multiple strokes to cover your lips.  You can watch the video below of me applying the gloss to get a better understanding of what I mean.

Final thoughts:

This was my first purchase from Kylie Cosmetics and I was surprised how fast my order came after hearing some horrible stories.  As far as the packaging, it's cute and I like the metallic red details.  Purchasing this kit was a great way for me to try out a few of her products at once.  To be honest,  I didn't do much research on this product before I purchased it.  It was the only thing that was left in stock, so I checked out in a haste.  With that said, upon receiving this, I was shocked at how tiny these items were.  I guess I should have known considering it was only $22, which is not a bad price.  It was the shipping fees to Canada, that makes me feel this kit was not worth it. The shipping rate was $15 USD which wouldn't have been too bad if I was placing a huge order. The total order ended up costing me $50 CND for some mini size items.  I would have much preferred the shades in the Kiss Me Kit but it was sold out.  I don't think the shadows are the best out there, so I probably won't be purchasing any more of her shadows anytime soon.  I do like the liquid lipstick and the gloss.  I feel (would hope) the wand would apply much better on a full size gloss.  If Kylie Cosmetics offers free international,   I would consider purchasing some more lip products.  This kit is currently sold out but you can shop her collections at kyliecosmetics.com.

See how I wear this kit in the below video:

Have you tried any Kylie Cosmetic products before?  What are your thoughts?  Am I just nit picking?

Samantha,

xoxo
