Roots' new packable jacket will have you covered in any weather. I attended the launch party for this line at the Roots Chill House (aka Chill Ice House). A perfect location to put the jacket to test in the below freezing temperatures. We witnessed ice sculpture carving while sipping on frosty beverages in the Roots Ice Lounge before defrosting in the cozy Roots Cabin.
If the name of the jacket didn't give it away, it features a packable design that is perfect for on-the-go or travel. The jacket is now available across Roots stores and Roots.com for $168 CAD. It is available in black, Salt and Pepper, Navy Pepper and Red Pepper.
The easy-to-layer jacket is made with premium traceable "duck down at 700 fill power for lightweight warmth and a durable ripstop shell". The nylon material has a water repellent coating to keep you dry. It is super soft, comfortable and lightweight; it almost feels like you're not wearing a jacket. It provides the warmth of a puffy jacket without the look of one. Another benefit of this jacket is that it is traceable. For those of you that like to know where the down filling in your jacket originated, you can enter the serial number on www.trackmydown.com. There you can trace the down origin, quality and fill power and provide test reports on the down used for the jacket.
I think this jacket is a perfect transition piece to carry us from fall to winter especially for the cool nights we've been getting in Toronto. I love the packable concept; it folds up so neatly. I typically travel during the winter months and it can be such a hassle to wear your winter gear to the airport only to carry it indoors. I will definitely be taking my packable jacket with me on future trips.
