Dose of Colors: Desi x Katy Collection - Review, Photos and Swatches

IMG_5531.JPG

Hi beauties,

Best friends Desi Perkins and Katy DeGroot (aka LustreLux) have collaborated with indie brand Dose of Colors for the brand's first collaboration.  I love Desi and Katy; I follow them both on all of their platforms.  I'm so excited that I was able to get my hands on everything I wanted from this collection.  I was anticipating its release since the first mention of the collab on social media.  The eight piece collection was released on August 14th and was sold out in less than a day.  But not to worry the collection will be restocked this month.  The Desi x Katy collection includes 2 highlighters, 2 lipsticks, 2 matte liquid lipsticks, 1 lip gloss, and 1 eyeshadow quad.  All items were available to purchase in a bundle for $167 but unfortunately, the items were not discounted in the bundle.  I purchased everything except for the two liquid lipsticks as I don't reach for liquid lipsticks that much.  Keep reading to hear my thoughts on the collection as well as swatches for everything I picked up.  Just a heads up, it's a lengthy post so if you prefer to watch my review video, you can skip to the bottom of this post.

From the packaging to the hues, everything about this collection is stunning.  Who doesn't love rose gold, nude and bling? Even the box it was shipped in was nude.  The products are packaged in metallic rose gold boxes that have the girl's signatures printed on it.  The palettes have a beautiful ultra-dimension sparkly exterior that is to die for.  The lipstick tubes are like none other with a matte nude soft touch cover.  The vlogger's signatures are also printed onto the rose gold section of the lipsticks.

THE GIRLS - $28 USD

This eyeshadow palette includes four metallic shades in neutral and bold hues.  The shadows were named after the duo's fur babies nicknames.  They wanted a palette that had standout shades to have your lids popping, as everyone has their go to matte and transition shades.  All of the shades are meant to be applied with the fingers to achieve the best outcome.   It makes a big difference when you do so.  The texture of the shades is very soft to the touch and you really need to use a light hand.  Two of them are meant to be wet to give a liquid metal look.  The other two can be worn dry and I will list which ones below.  There will be some fallout if the wet ones are used dry.

SUZ- is a bright champagne shade. "A super creamy texture that is formulated to be used WET. One drop of water on your finger is all you need".  You really need to use a light hand with this one because I made that mistake and picked up too much product and it got a little messy.  It glides on smoothly and is very pigmented.  It looks great on the center of the lid and inner corner of the eyes.

HARPOON- "Take metallic to a whole new level with this dazzling shade. A cool tone green base with green and gold reflects. This unique shade is formulated to be used WET".   This is such a beautiful shade and looks great with a green smokey eye.  I found I needed more glitter for a full evening glam look.

TURBOSAN- "Start sparkling with this ultra-luxe shadow that is packed with shimmering reflects. For intense color payoff and a glistening finish, apply with finger".  This shade has a strong under base but contains plenty of glitter which is very unique.  It looks grey in the pan but looks more like an eggplant shade with silver reflects when applied.  I accidentally applied this shade with a brush and there was not that much pigmentation.  Then I tried using a wet brush which made it worst and took the glitter away so don't forget to use your fingers to apply these shadows.  I did notice some glitter fall out after trying to apply it with a brush.

NOLI-"Bring out your inner bombshell with this sultry bronze shade that is infused with gold reflects. This perfect bronze shade is a powerfully pigmented formula that glides onto the lids for a silky-smooth finish".

HIGHLIGHTERS - $28 USD

FUEGO - which means fire in Spanish is a light champagne gold shade.  It is the lighter shade out of the two highlights.  The powder is very fine, smooth and buildable.  It's meant to give you a wet sheen look according to the girls.  I found a dense brush works best to apply it.  It does not leave a white cast on the cheeks like some other highlighters on my tan complexion.

MÍRAME - means look at me, love that.  It is a rose gold highlighter.  The formula is the same consistency as Fuego.  I think this shade would look great on tan to dark complexions.

No Shade - is a light peachy nude shade.  I originally wasn't going to purchase this shade until I seen swatches on tan complexions and I thought it would work.  It is actually too light on me to be worn on its own.  I need to use a liner or mix it with other shades.  It has a creamy matte finish.

More Creamer Please - Named after the duo's coffee jokes, this shade is a deeper nude with brown peach undertones.  Of course, this is my favourite of the two.  It has a creamy matte finish.

Over the Top - This is a brand new product designed specifically with their nude lipsticks in mind.  It's a high shine clear gloss infused with gold reflects.  It looks beautiful in the light; it's sparkly but not chunky or sticky.  You don't see much of the gold reflects when it's worn over the lipsticks but it gives a glossy finish which I love.

Desi and Katy have created a hot fire collection with Dose of Colors.  I appreciate the work they themselves and Anna (owner of Dose of Colors) has put into designing this collection.  They created everything from the colours to the beautiful packaging. The packaging is everything!  The highlighters are standout products for me from this line.  They are finely milled and blend into the skin so smoothly.  I prefer to layer both highlighters together for the ultimate glow.  The formula on the lipsticks is very creamy and non-drying.  The gloss is also very nice since it's not sticky.  As for the eyeshadow palette, the formulas are very unique.  They are smooth and pigmented but there are only a few standout shades for me.  I really like Harpoon and Turbosan.  I feel everything in this collection is reasonably priced and is align with other brands.  However, I had to pay duties on my shipment so I wasn't too happy about that.
