Gucci Beauty Rouge à Lèvres Satin Lipstick - 400 Kimberley Rose: Review & Swatch

Last year Gucci Beauty was given a face-lift by the current creative director Alessandro Michele. Starting off the collection with over 70 lipsticks that have been reformulated and repackaged. The collection is divided into different formulas - matte, satin, sheer, glitter/metallic and balm formulas. The range of lip shades is inspired by iconic Hollywood movies and characters from the gilded era and Alessandro’s love affair with timeless art and vintage makeup. There is an array of shades from nudes, pinks to reds and even a black and green shade. Each lipstick in all of the collections can be layered and blended to create unique colours and finishes. The lipstick retails for $55 CAN and $42 USD at Holt Renfrew and Sephora.com.

I purchased one of the Rouge à Lèvres Satin lipsticks from Holt Renfrew during their beauty sale to test it out. The Rouge à Lèvres Satin collection features a creamy, long-lasting colour-rich formula. Each lipstick is encased in a “gold-toned packaging etched with a decorative Art Deco-influenced motif’. The vintage packaging is pretty but I much prefer the previous packaging with the brand’s logo embossed on the outer package and lipstick. The formula feels lightweight and moisturizing. It is very comfortable to wear. The mix of waxes helps the lipstick glide on smoothly. It’s pigmented and lasts about four hours before fading. As the formula is satin, there is some transfer when eating and drinking. It contains a floral fragrance with violet notes and a soft, fruity scent that’s not overpowering. The shade Kimberly Rose is described as a pale rose. However, on me, it’s not pale at all. I love how the pink looks on me. It’s perfect for summer nights. The brand suggests using this shade as a blush to create a flush of colour on the cheeks. Given the price of this lipstick, I will just be using it on my lips.
